I’m not a Beatles lover. I’m kind of a Beatles hater, actually. And I know people will hate me for saying I hate Sgt. Pepper’s, right? But the greatest rock & roll record of all time? To me, rock & roll is more Rolling Stones, sexy and dirty. They’re clever. But there’s nothing raw about the Beatles. There’s no dirty sex with them. And that’s not rock & roll.

At this point, Sevigny has to run. She has an appointment at the SoHo Apple Store to fix her 15-year-old Macbook. As we stroll through SoHo, we spot a tall, thin, pale man dressed in all black with bottle-blond hair. “FASHION GOTHS!” she scream-whispers in my ear after he passes.
My dad would bring me to Bloomingdale’s or Saks Fifth Avenue in the city. We were going on the train from Connecticut into the city, going into the big department stores and going into the Esprit section and shopping. So to me, the city always had all this glamour and fashion, and I remember he just said, “Well, you know that Madonna and Cyndi Lauper shop at Fiorucci,” and I was like, “Then we HAVE to go to Fiorucci!” We went to Fiorcucci and we sat outside of Fiorucci for hours, and I said, “I don’t want to leave; I want to see Madonna! I want to see Cyndi really bad!
